Oracle Cloud Buyer's Guide

Surprisingly cheap?Oracle Cloud

Have you heard that Oracle Cloud is cheaper than other cloud vendors?
Would you like to consult someone who has used Oracle Cloud or would you like to get an idea about the costs before contacting Oracle?
You may want to compare prices for different configurations, and quickly check out the details yourself.

Oracle's Cost Estimator, a cloud cost estimation tool provided by Oracle Corporation serves this purpose. Click here for the URL.
https://www.oracle.com/jp/cloud/cost-estimator.html

Here is a screen shot of the Cost Estimator tool. (Figure 1)

Figure 1

Let's click and check it out to get an idea
Here, we have selected Infrastructure; Click Add for the "Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Compute,VM" on the left. This simple step will give you an estimate for the service. (Figure 2)

Figure 2

Here, we selected Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Compute, VM dialog box shown on the left side of the screen.

On selecting Compute-Virtual Machine, the monthly cost came out to be JPY 5,696.
Click ">" to view the details. (Figure 3)

Figure 3

Figure 4

Here, we have selected Compute - Virtual Machine Standard - X7 (B88514). (Figure 4)

You can click Compute - Virtual Machine Standard - X7 (B88514) to change the number of OCPUs. Let us try changing the number from 1 to 2. (Figure 5)

Figure 5

The amount changed because the number of OCPUs was changed to 2.

This is how "Cost Estimator" tool roughly works.
The operation itself does not seem that difficult, right?

Now, let's try getting an actual cost estimation by considering specific configurations.

Here, we have considered configurations comprising one AP/Web server, one DB server and storage for DB backup.
See Figure 6 and Table 1 for the details of cloud configuration.

Figure 6

Table 1

ComponentQuantityApplicationNumber of OCPUsDisk Capacity
Cloud Infrastructure Compute1AP/Web Server2OCPU-
Oracle Database Cloud Service Oracle instance1DB Server2OCPU-
Block Volume Storage2AP/Web Server, DB Server-500GB
Object Storage1Backup-1TB

1. Let's acquire an estimate from AP/Web server.
Click on "Infrastructure" option on the left side of the page. (Figure 7)

Figure 7

Click the Add button for "Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Compute,VM" on the left. (Figure 8)

Figure 8

On selecting Compute-Virtual Machine, the monthly cost came out to be JPY 5,696.
Click ">" to change the number of OCPUs of Compute - Virtual Machine Standard - X7 (B88514)
to 2.

The amount comes to JPY 11,392.

This completes the selection process for AP/WEB server. (Figure 9)

Figure 9

2. Next, let's try acquiring an estimate for DB server.
Click on "Data Management" on the left side of the page. (Figure 10)

Figure 10

Click the Add button for "Oracle Database Cloud Service - Virtual Machine" on the left. (Figure 11)

Figure 11

Using the same procedure as before, change the number of OCPUs for DBCS_VM / Oracle Database Cloud Service - Standard Edition (B90569) to 2.
This completes the selection process for DB server. (Figure 12)

Figure 12

3. Next, let us estimate the cost for Block Storage.
Click on "Search all products" on the left side of the page. (Figure 13)

Figure 13

Enter "block" as the search keyword.
The related products will appear on the screen.

Select "Storage - Block Volumes" and click on Add Service. (Figure 14)

Figure 14

Configuration Options will appear below on the selection screen.
Select Storage - Block Volume - Storage (B91961) and enter 500GB. (Figure 15)

Figure 15

Then, select Storage - Block Volume - Performance Units (B91962) and enter 5000 GB. (Figure 15-2)

Figure 15-2

Since Elastic Performance feature is configured at "Balanced" by default and is suitable for most workloads, we have used the same setting as an example. In this case, we have entered 5000 GB because Performance Units (B91962) require 10 times the capacity of Storage (B91961).

Since two Block Storage units are required, select "Storage - Block Volumes" as in the previous procedure, click Add Service, and perform the same operation as above.

4. Finally, let us acquire an estimate for Object Storage.

The procedure for Object Storage is the same as that for Block Storage.

Click on "Search all products" on the left side of the page.
Enter "object" as the search keyword.
The related products will appear on the screen, and the same procedure shall be followed as that followed for Block Storage.

Since the size of Object Storage is 1TB, enter 1000 GB in Storage - Archive Storage - Storage (B91633). (Figure 16)

Figure 16

Once setup is complete, the monthly fee will appear at the bottom of the screen in the upper right and lower right corner of the screen.
You can also check the estimated amount for each configuration option.

Monthly fee for cloud—about JPY 56,000!
For less than 100,000 yen/month, you can feel the benefits of the cloud.

This can be complicated depending on the Cloud configuration.
As is often the case with the cloud, features are often added or changed. Please note that the selection method may change each time.

Feel free to contact us if you are interested in adopting cloud!

Monthly fees and other amounts do not include consumption tax.

Oracle Universal Credits Program

Two purchase models

Pay As You Go

Pay As You Go fees are billed monthly in arrears. In the event of account termination, we stop billing the client and terminate the resource as soon as the account termination request is processed. You will not be billed for Oracle IaaS or PaaS that is not activated within your Cloud Services account.

Annual Universal Credits

In the Annual Flex model, fees are billed in advance for a minimum of 12 months and deducted monthly based on actual usage. Credits must be used within a 12-month period.
Pay As You GoAnnual Flex Universal Credits
Target servicesCan be used for all services—PaaS/IaaS
PaymentPay later for the usage each monthAnnual credit paid in advance
(Minimum annual credit amount: JPY 240,000)
Contract periodNone1 year or more
  • Pay As You Go is recommended for short term use or when the amount to be used is not fixed.
  • Annual Flex is recommended for regular use over a period of one year or more.

Leverage your Oracle software licenses

Advantages of BYOL to PaaS: Owned licenses can be leveraged to implement cloud computing at a lower cost

By bringing your own licenses to the cloud, you can use PaaS at a much lower rate than usual

  • For DBCS EE, the rate can be reduced by 55%
  • Ongoing maintenance fees for licenses will be applicable

Advantages of BYOL to PaaS: Improved operations management, which is a feature of PaaS

Advantages of BYOL to PaaS: Database options available at no cost

The following options are available for BYOL with Oracle Database Enterprise Edition without bringing in an optional license at the same time

Diagnostics Pack

  • DB monitoring
  • Automatic diagnostics and advisor

Tuning Pack

  • Testing tools for DB migration
  • SQL performance analysis, etc.

Data Masking and Subsetting Pack

  • Masking test data in irreversible format

Real Application Testing

  • Tuning Advisor
  • SQL monitoring

Advantages of BYOL to PaaS: Exceptions to the parallel operation period when migrating from on-premise
